Who is this dame?
I’m a singer living in Brooklyn, NYC by way of Seattle by way of Italy by way of Wasilla, Alaska.
I am fascinated by the fragility and transience of our lives; singing and writing are two ways in which I try–and try, and try–to make sense of it all.
But I have a hunch that Gertrude Stein was right on the money when she said, ”There ain’t no answer. There ain’t gonna be any answer. There never has been an answer. That’s the answer.”
So I keep singing, and I keep writing.
I also love food and wine. I think that preparing and serving food for others is a truly loving act, and that sharing a meal, however simple, with people you love is one of life’s greatest joys.
Oh, one more thing: Ad Alta Voce means “Out Loud.” Like most things, it sounds better in Italian.
Love the blog…and it’s only enhanced by you being a fellow NY’er!
I’m so glad you liked it–thanks for reading!
Hi…Just how you crooked up those words like bubbles really amazes me. The first time i’m visiting, i think i’ll be a frequent here. Anyway, I’m subscribing your Feed so keep those words flow.
Wow. Thank you so much. “Words like bubbles”–I love that!
Hey Hilary,
Love the blog, you have great style. Life is a very peculiar series of events that can very easily pass you by if you are not prepared to really live. I have always wanted to live in NYC and am convinced it is the perfect arena for making the most of every day. I get the feeling you are on the right track! I enjoy your writing and would love to hear you sing sometime.
I am new to blogging and have just started my own. I would love for you to stop by sometime and let me know what you think. Best of luck with your singing career and keep living ad alta voce.

Thank you so much, Cameron. I will definitely stop by your blog. Thanks for reading and commenting. Here’s to getting the most from each day!
Hi Hilary, I’m happy to come across your blog. It’s my first time to visit here. You’re writing is excellent plus you live in New York ( my all-time dream city to visit someday). Hope you don’t mind if I add you in my blog roll. Thanks…
Crestina
Thank you so much for reading! I’d be honored to be on your blogroll.
Hi Hilary, I don’t often read blogs. I came across yours, and it is a pleasure to read.
Gary
Gary! Thank you so much for reading! This blog project started this summer when I realized that I’d been saying, “Hey, I want to be writing more,” for quite a while. As I wrote more, the blog kind of took on a life of its own and I have found that it’s become a big part of my creative process. In any case, I’m so glad you stopped by and that you enjoyed it! Hope everything is GREAT for you!
NY is a beautiful city! Hope I’ll be there someday.
You may be a singer but you also look like a model.
Thanks! You’re too kind. (-:
Simply, the best thing to ever come from Alaska, especially Wasilla. Keep on blogging !
Thanks, Leo! Will do. (-:
Hi Hilary,
Just came across your blog and am loving it! So great to see another jazz musician blogging these days, and so nice that not every post is music related. Keep up the great work, and I hope to hear you sing one of these days.
-Kelly
Thank you, Kelly! I’m going to cruise write over to your blog right now and do some reading. I find that writing prose has become a very natural part of my creative process; it seems that’s also true for you. In any case, I hope to see you soon, and thanks so much for reading!
Glad to see you are sharing your writing with the world, and not keeping it in some vault up-state.
Thanks, JQF. It’s nearly inconceivable to me that he’s gone. I’m going to keep shining my shoes for the Fat Lady, though.
Nice call.
Still listening to you out here.
JQF
